07.12.06 Survivor China - Family Visits

Family members join the Survivors for the reward challenge. They have to go through a maze, blindfolded, and get to the center - first couple to get there wins. Denise and her husband work together and win a boat trip, meal and phone call from home. Denise picks Todd and Amanda to go along leaving Peih Gee very pissed off.

For immunity each member has to go through obstacles while tied to a rope and answer questions correctly to get a key to open a box which will release their flag - first to get three keys and release their flag wins. Boy, this was a grueling challenge - all looked exhausted but in the end Peih Gee wins. She is safe for another week.

Peih Gee and Erik try to persuade Denise to come to their side but Denise stays loyal and Erik goes home.

Topics:

  • What does family do to Survivor dynamics
  • Final 5 - how will this all play out

Predictions:

    Final 5 predictions -

PG is next, then Denise. Final 3 is Amanda, Todd, and Courtney. My pick to win is Amanda, although I owuldn’t be mad if Todd won. Courtney (assuming it’s a final 3 judge/jury, gets no votes.)

And as foe the Courtney thing with giving TOdd an Oscar…..wow. SHe better hope she’s right, because it looks like Todd was telling the truth. Now I could see why it would look suspicious, especially given the Fairplay incident, but it it was true Courtney’s going have to do osme explaining once Todd sees the epsidoe. I really hope they bring it up sometime, like, say, the reunion show.

    First thoughts:

Yeah, if I was PeihGee, I’d be upset not getting to participate in the reward just days after giving Denise the trip of a lifetime.

The set up with Todd was very close to the Johnny Fairplay crap, but I don’t think Todd and his sister are both that good of actors. I suppose that if it was a dupe, the editors would have given up that soundbite from Todd saying it was a sympathy card (ala Fairplay). Instead, we get him telling Amanda & her sister that it was real. So this makes Courtney looked very very bad with that assessment. She owes him such a big apology.

I haven’t listened to the podcast yet, but I’m wondering about your predictions. You think that Todd & Amanda & Courtney & Denise are NOT going to vote out PeihGee if she doesn’t get immunity? Logic has been thrown out the window here. The only way that could occur is if Denise AND Courtney both jump ship to PeihGee’s boat. As smart as it might be to get rid of either Todd or Amanda - we have a different perspective than they did playing the game and I’m not seeing any signs of changing direction. Now, if Peih Gee gets the next immunity - that should signal the ousting of Todd (because I can see the girls banding together)…..or that is PeihGee’s last ditch effort - trying to get a girls alliance. But Todd is almost like one of the gals anyway (and I mean that with tons of respect for his gameplay).

I’ve been looking at Todd for the win since the first episode (I appreciate those who think about the strategy and let the audience in to their game thoughts in the private confessionals).

My predictions (again, without hearing the podcast):
Reward: could it be the curse of the car? PeihGee
Immunity: Todd (cause I’d like to see him win something)
    Voted out: Peih Gee

First, I was really surprised that I didn’t hear Marj talk more about how good James looked all cleaned up. He did look great. Bitter, but great. But the bitterness is his own damn fault!
    {And I am looking forward to seeing a cleaned up Erik too!}

Now that konamouse pointed out about Peih Gee being upset that she took Denise on her reward, but Denise didn’t take her… I understand her being upset. Do I think she would’ve been voted out for NOT taking them? No. But, I do understand the strategy angle.

I think of Courtney as even more of a douchebag now after talking shit about Todd and his “Fairplay moment”. I think it did happen, and you have to realize that these people have been out of touch with their families for a month now. I’m sure that was the biggest thing that has happened at home in the last month. Of course she is going to tell, because somewtimes these people fly all the way to the country and get to see their loved ones for 10 seconds. Anyway, she showed her true colors - AGAIN - and I totally hope she gets called on it at the reunion show. I hope they make her CRY!

Ugh… So, I was pulling for Todd & Amanda for weeks now, BUT… after last night, they just annoy me. Courtney annoyed me since DAY 1 ~ no surprise. So, I have to say… I HOPE it comes down to Denise and Peih Gee! (god, I never thought I would be pulling for Peih Gee!)
    Why the change of heart?
That conversation between Todd & Amanda & their sisters in the swimming hole. They don’t think that Denise should win because people have seen that she already has a good, happy life, even though she doesn’t make a lot of money. So they don’t have a happy life and MONEY WILL MAKE THEM HAPPIER???

    Douchebag, douchebag, douchebag!

    Regardless… here are my predictions:

    Reward: Peih Gee

    Immunity:

    Voted out:

On your podcast you were talking about how a family members visit might hurt them. If you remember on Survivor Thailand, the survivors did not get to see their family members, but they had tapes from home. The survivors did not watch them in private, but as a group. Brian’s (the winner) video showed his wife giving a tour of the house. When she got to the garage there were two Cadillacs in the garage. This got the other survivors talking about whether or not he really needed the money, and Brian was POed that his wife had done this.

Of course, it didn’t hurt him too much since he won the million, but at the time of the video, it did cause a bit of a problem.

    love the show!!!

Just rewatched the episode again. They need to retitle this eppy ‘The Smelly Ep’, I think there were at least 10+ references to stink.

I’m not liking anybody anymore, so I guess I’ll hope Todd goes all the way since he seems to be playing the game well.

I’m tired of the buttblur. Enough already. :)

I think it has been a long time since we’ve had 3 very strategic players go this far. Eric, Denise and Courtney can all go home and leave the real players to duke it out.
I have to admit, the first thing that I thought about Todd’s sister drama was he is so lying. Even lame Eric felt it as well. (I’ve read that Eric was very sick during the game)
Any thoughts on who will be the most bitter player when this is all over? So often it’s the player who says “It’s just a game” that ends up the most bitter.

  9. konamouse Says:

Jean Robert continues to have that pissed off (constipated) look every time the jury walks in…his overblown sense of entitlement when he threatened Todd puts him way far down on the list of “it’s just a game”. Frosti emotes the best attitude on the jury seats (seems to always be smiling - I think he was just tickled pink to be part of the whole thing, it wasn’t just about the winning). James was good looking but very cold & angry. However, if the rumors are true, then he gets a second chance and being a relatively unknown amongst the previous players & ultra-fans, maybe this time he figures out the strategic side of the game and goes further.

Eric will also have a happy face on the jury. I predict that Peih Gee will be bitter (and I would anticipate venom in her speech to the final 2 or 3). Todd would also have an angry look, but he should appreciate logic & strategy - rewarding gameplay if he ends up in the jury. Cortney would have no logic in her choice of winner (so I am not sure I want her in the jury - but I don’t want her in the final 2 either, unless it is against Todd).

    Hi guys!

I love the family show (which I call the crying show). My wife hates it though! Besides the emotional aspect, you get to see the survivors in a different light. Their loved one and how they interact says a lot.

Denise probably should have taken P.G., which I think further shows her lack of survivor skills. She’s doomed to 4th place, which is higher than she deserves.

Both Todd and Amanda are playing well and I still like both of them. I think they will make for a close finish. I don’t see a girl’s alliance pulling through.

Michael and Marj, thanks for switching back to penis talk as opposed to the bodily fluid discussion last week.

Finally, an answer! (to the “easily amused” question) Thanks Michael. I guess I was right about it being National Lampoon, but I’d never heard the sketch before (and I’m pretty well versed in those SNL talents) Anyway, the bit is called “Mr. Roberts” and the performers are Christopher Guest (of Spinal Tap, Best of Show, etc.) and Bill Murray (as the bass player). Good stuff. You got me on this one. Damn you Michael!!!! Ok, at least I can sleep now… :-)

You lost me at which President would you do…..

Marji, if you get on Survivor, have me come with you. You know damn well that Michael could not possibly help you win a challenge. I’m your girl. I’ll bring you spare toothpaste, do you think they’d blur our paste swapping kiss?

I really do not like Toad, Courtney Skellington, and Amanda…. So I’m hoping that their immaturity blows up in their faces, leaving Denise, PG and CS in the final three, Courtney did nothing to deserve it so she’s gone, basically, PG can be such a beeeyotch, that Denise would have it tied up. Mullet or no, I likes me some lunch lady.

I am thinking James will be the MOST bitter, followed by PG (who will be smiling constantly, but still.) I for one am hoping Chicken will yell “DAMN!!!” at the finale, just to see everyone jump again. :)

Hands up everyone who wants Michael and Marjorie to do an Armchair Amazing Race! Pretty please???

Those bird calls were about the dumbest damn thing I’ve ever seen in my life. But also one of the funniest. Good lordy, I think I peed a little bit.

I agree that you should DEFINITELY do an Armchair Celebrity Apprentice. Oh yeah!

Best player: Amanda, by far. How many times has her name been written down? - 0 - How many times have people talked about writing her name down? - 0 - How many times has she been in on or masterminded someone else’s demise? - MANY!!! -

    Best player.
Wonder if she can keep it up. We’ll see.

Did you notice … BECAUSE I DID … Amanda’s sister ALSO GOT A BUTT BLUR at one point!!!!!! What the hell!? The blur that runs in the family. Odd.

  17. BrianAlt Says:

Okay, there’s a lot of discussion as to who would someone take to the final two, or have in their mind to take to the final two.

Why would anyone want to take Peih Gee? I don’t think they would. PG could get a lot of votes. First, those that are pissed off with their original tribe (JR). Second, those that were with PG originally. And third, those that think that it’s amazing that PG actually MADE IT to the end!

Amanda would like to be with Courtney or Todd. Gotta figure she’d win over them.

Todd would probably most like to be with Courtney. He’d lose to Denise (maybe), Amanda, Peih Gee (probably).

Courtney? Who would she WANT to be with? I have no idea. I don’t think she’s thinking this far while everyone else is. I think Courtney comes in second in all scenarios.

Denise probably wins over everyone. She’s perceived as needing the money. It would be amazing that she actually made it to the end. Everyone basically likes her. Negatives? Well, under the radar problem perhaps?

So, if they are smart, which they are NOT, the vote off Peih Gee this week. I think the whole Todd thing is a red herring.

Well, it’s more fun, but I still don’t think it’s one of the better Survivor seasons.

  18. konamouse Says:

Why are they so emotional about seeing their families when it’s been just a little more than a month. Heck, military families go much longer without contact - with their loved ones in far more dangerous situations.
If either konashark or myself got on Survivor (fat chance, we’re hoping to get on Amazing Race if it’s still running in 3 more years when he retires from the military) we could do the 40 days separation with NO PROBLEM.
On the other hand, after weeks of semi-starvation and worrying about conspiracies all over the place, their emotions are so tied up in knots, it’s not unrealistic for tears to flow when a friendly reminder shows up.

    Hi All!

just want you to know I am still out here and listening to the podcast. I really miss out Thursdays together on buddyTV. are you just too busy to do it this season?

I find myself actually rooting for PG now, after hating her all season. I am hoping the girls can finally pull one over on the boy. Don’t think it’s ever happened??

I predict Amanda, Denise and PG will ally to vote off Todd.

ARG PG, why?? I am not seeing anything redeeming she’s done. Taking Denise to the temple, umm well I guess that balances out throwing the challenge earlier. She hasn’t been particularly conniving like Amanda and Todd.

PG throwing the challenge was smart! I know people hate throwing anything, but it was strategy. It was GOOD strategy.

She’s been conniving as she can be. She doesn’t have the numbers to be conniving.

She’s the only thing interesting and she’s about to be voted out! Damn!
