07.11.29 Survivor China - They Bit The Apple…
The time for naked frolicking is over. A twist at last show’s tribal council sends the tribe to a reward challenge instead of back to camp. The first person to answer 5 questions about Chinese culture wins a trip to a temple, food and a night away. A spectacular reward! Peih-Gee wins. While on the reward Peih-Gee tries to persuade Erik and Denise that this group can be the “final three”. And then back at camp Amanda is making moves to get James voted off.For the immunity challenge each tribe member must throw death stars at a target and the person with the most points wins. It looks to be a close challenge but Erik wins! The smile on his face said it all…”WHEW!”Peih-Gee approaches Amanda to try to sway her to vote James off - Amanda tells her “wink, wink” act like you know you are going home and all will work out (what she didn’t add “according to my plan”).It was the perfect time for the power play and James fell right into it and was voted off. We’ll miss you James but as you said it “you rolled the dice too many times” - WHY DIDN’T YOU USE ONE OF THOSE IDOLS????? Darn.

    I called it last week.
James just let his greed (with those idols) overwhelm him. He got OUTPLAYED and it was his OWN fault.

Good for those others. They made the right move. And Amanda was the mastermind (like I said last week.)

HOWEVER — two BIG mistakes that show weaknesses in their game:

    1. P.G. should have told James about the switch. She took a big risk NOT telling him. If she tells him then he can play his idol and get rid of Todd. She uncovers the scheme and splits the other alliance up… gaining James as an allie. By not telling him, she takes a risk (a MILLION DOLLAR risk) on trusting those who are going to try to vote her out next week. PG should have played it better. She got lucky.

    2. Todd also took a MILLION DOLLAR risk by going along with Amanda’s plan. He KNEW that PG was going to vote for him and that James could POSSIBLY play the idol. He is way too smart a player to take such a risk. But he did.

    Cracks.
    They are a-showin’…

  3. Kucing Says:

This episode has one of the best strategy moves of this season. James forgot the number one rule in Survivor “TRUST NO ONE!”. He became too arrogant and paid dearly for it. James used to be my favorite until a few episodes back when he “assumed” that he was safe until the final four.

Amanda and Todd are both excellent strategists and they deserve to make it to the finals. If anybody allied themselves with James this round, it would have secured James’s position in the final 4 and give a him a unfair advantage against the others. Now the playing fields are level again and will make an exciting last couple of episodes.

So far this has been a great season to watch (much better than the last). I love the twists and turns and strong players. Marjorie and Michael: I love your podcast! I look forward to it every Friday.

  4. MJ Says:

Well to say the least, the show had me at the edge of my seat during tribal council, i really thought that James would play the immunity idols being as he said that he would take them just in case, it was pretty dumb in his part to have two of them and not play one for safety measures. That being said, i’m happy that he’s off the show, he was getting to arrogant for me, go Amanda or Eric!

Slappy - I called it (method/need to blindside James) back on Nov 12th: http://survivor.tubecasts.com/blog/index.php/archives/103#comments

And Peih Gee should have gone to James - but he might have thought she was lying trying to save her own skin. However, as soon as he took that story back to Todd/Amanda/Courtney - one or more of them would have totally lost it (body language) and he would know it was the truth and he definately would have gone over to the 2 and helped to get rid of Todd.

Reward: I would love Denise to win it outright
    Immunity: Eric (love his smile)
    Voted off: Peih Gee

I’ll probably be back online later in the week with more comments (cause I can’t keep my mouth shut).

ok, something is wrong with the site, or it’s just mocking me and making me look stupid. (technology of all kinds seems to be doing that to me today!) Don’t see my original post on here, but all the apologies for spelling errors, etc, so things that were barely funny in the first place are now very un-funny in the wrong order… Anyway Michael, if you didn’t get the post, I said I give up about the “easily amused” reference. I assume it has something to do with National Lampoon, but I don’t know the details. Fill me in on the source so I can check it out!

  11. Slappy McGee Says:

Okay after thinking about it… and based on how people are playing the game… and how likely people are to get votes from the jury if they make it that far:

Here are the SLAPPY’S ODDS of WINNING SURVIVOR:

    Amanda … 3-2
    Todd … 2-1
    Denise … 4-1
    Erik … 7-1
    Courtney … 10-1
    PG … 100-1

That’s the lines as I see them.

So what’s dumber - Playing a fake idol or not playing any of the real ones?

“So what’s dumber - Playing a fake idol or not playing any of the real ones?”

Not playing the real idol. At least Jaime “tried”.

This is just the result of James not being a good people person. He’s so used to being by himself, working alone. He doesn’t get along well with others and couldn’t figure out that something was fishy.

At the opposite end of the spectrum, Todd works in public relations and has to be good getting along with all sorts of people (customers and coworkers) in his job.

James probably wasn’t very familiar with the psychological and social aspects of Outwit, Outlast, Outplay (just the physical). And those of us who have watched every single episode of every single season (*cough*) know that after the first few weeks, this game is all mental. And Todd is a student of the game.

    Agreed.

James made a HUGE mistake and just didn’t think things out. Which is odd, because out there all you have time to do IS think.

What he should do now is bring the immunity idols back to Tribal Council next time and leave them there for someone to get. That would be cool to see them all scrambling for them! Heh!

PS… After listening to the podcast, I like Michael’s impression of me. Sounds just like me… after several rounds of Jack and Coke!

  15. Survivor Dave Says:

Yeah, agree with Slappy. AFter the week he got a few votes, he should’ve been playing the immunity idols. Maybe if you only had one, hold out…but you had two! And could still hopefully win the ICs. Gotta think more logically and less with the ‘team’ mentality.

    Michael & Marj,

Michael, didn’t you ever watch Bruce Lee movies? They got red envelopes with lucky money for new years in “Return of the Dragon”.

Thanks for the no dick comments, but all the fluids talk…?

Poor James, not a smooth move. I always assume its the poor diet and dehydration that causes poor judgement. As noted above, they were many ways to play out the situation but this was probably the best for all but James.

It’s looking to me like Todd is going to win. Which is great, he’s played a pretty darn good game.

What? No sound teaser at the end of the show? I listened to a little of Joan and Tracy - you guys are sooo much better. Keep up the good work.

First, thanks for the mentions. Glad I can entertain. After all, that’s why we’re all here, right? Hey, Joe Fortunato, I know how you feel!

As for long posts, I’m not going longer than my STUPID rant. It was pretty long and it was shorter than Slappy’s. So, I conceed.

I’m glad they mixed it up, at least they made it interesting. Marji is sooo right when she says that just the final 4 is not enough. It’s meaningless. Good for them. So, now, Kung Fu Lunch Lady is the swing vote? HA! I guess that means she’s going home (or to the jury at least). And you guys are right, the numbers don’t add up. Swing vote? Only if she won immunity and then still the numbers don’t add up. We’ll have to see this.

Note to self: when on Survivor, NEVER declare myself the “swing vote”. Ultimate kiss of death.

Lastly, if you guys come to NYC email me. We really should have a drink (or three). And I’ll email you the next time I’m travelling down the Ohio Turnpike. ;-) Seriously, it could happen!

By the way, I still can’t figure out Amanda’s butt blur. I mean it doesn’t look like she’s wearing a thong. Maybe it’s one of those boy shorts that cuts halfway up her ass? Hmmm, too bad we can’t see. :\

    O:)

BrianAlt makes a good point. but it’s not declaring yourself a swing vote that kills you, usually it being indecisive when you’re the swing vote that brings down the wrath of others.

Unless something special happens, you can’t be a swing vote at 6.
